The GOP assumes a new party anthem:

Yes, Republican politics in Washington have turned dirrrty, as New Hampshire Republican Senator Judd Gregg suddenly pulls his name from nomination for Commerce Secretary announcing in statement today that:

“It has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me.”

Which is not what that two-timer told the White House earlier.  Press Secretary Gibbs called Gregg out earlier today, slapping back with this:

“Senator Gregg reached out to the President and offered his name for Secretary of Commerce. He was very clear throughout the interviewing process that despite past disagreements about policies, he would support, embrace, and move forward with the President’s agenda….”

So why the sudden “change of heart?”  Cue flashback sequence: Gregg offers up his name for the position when the Republican Party was still licking its post-election wounds and Obama was riding high on public and press support.  But after a month long debate over the stimulus bill, embarrassments inside the White House over Tom Daschle’s failure to pay $134,000 in taxes and growing public apprehension that the new administration may not be able to turn the economy around, the GOP has emerged reenergized.

Except that’s not even remotely what really went down.  This is isn’t evidence of Obama’s inexperience; this was a Republican scheme to deliberately embarrass the President, knock him off his stride to gain political points. And while some pill popping pundits had hotly hoped for Obama’s failure, this latest Gregg fiasco gives every indication Republicans are now orchestrating his fall.   It’s not only dirrty it’s the work of a:

  1. I’m only writing because I liked your picture. Your politics are as ugly as fat Boy George singing “Do you really want to hurt me.” The message that came down from GOP Heaven is “If you can’t beat him, then join him.” Senator Gregg had a change of heart because Obama is “Screwing up.” He rammed the bailout bill blindly down the throats of Americans. He has hidden provisions in the bill that need debate and that’s “Dirrty.” If this were basketball, Obama would be taken out of the game for too many turnovers and airballs. He never needed one vote from the GOP to get what he wanted. Well, he got 3 in the Senate. This is not the way to do business. It’s politics as usual and it stinks. This bill is not an emergency and it should have gone through normal appropriations.
