Weapon of Mass Desperation

For the 4th day in a row now, McCain’s is hammering Obama for a $3M earmark Obama asked for to replace a failing projector at Chicago’s Adler Planetarium.  Today in La Crosse, Wisconsin, McCain referred to Obama’s request for the earmark as the “disgusting” kind of politics that Americans are sick of.

This has to be the feeblest attempt to take down an opponent in the last days of any election.  Suggesting Obama is guilty of the same kind of corruption endemic to the Republican Party is not only false, it’s desperate.  And, in terms of strategy, who is the genius advising McCain to hammer Obama with attacks on SCIENCE?!  If you haven’t shored up the evolution-denying base by now, I’d say the golden ticket in the last days of any election, Independents, is a lost cause.  This is so embarassing, I’m beginning to think that the imploding McCain campaign could be engaging in sabotage.

Adler Planetarium Officials issued this statement in defense of the request for project funding (which was denied)

Science literacy is an urgent issue in the United States. To remain competitive and ensure national security, it is vital that we educate and inspire the next generation of explorers to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.  Senator McCain’s statements about the Adler Planetarium’s request for federal support do not accurately reflect the museum’s legislative history or relationship with Senator Obama.
